Operation Sunshine
Former Utica Mutual President Victor T. Ehre suggested in 1968 that there be some sort of community effort to send needy kids to summer camp, and the Utica newspapers agreed to sponsor it. Mason Taylor, then the newspaper's executive editor, dubbed it "Operation Sunshine". The community generosity was so great that summer that it was decided to begin a holiday campaign, too.
Today, Operation Sunshine continues to conduct two annual campaigns to help the needy people in our community. All donations stay in the community.
